A few years ago, after moving into a neighborhood featuring a community pond, I decided to become a bass fisherman.

Just to be clear, my expectations were modest. It was never my hope to become one of those highfalutin fishermen with product endorsements, a $40,000 boat, and the latest tech with a video screen showing exactly where the fish are lurking. I’m sure that’s cool, but it’s not for me.

Instead, my dream was to be the guy who walked over to the neighborhood pond after work to catch a few bass before sundown. To immerse myself for a time in a tiny sliver of nature, soak in the serotonin, enjoy the occasional boost of adrenaline as I sensed a bass about to strike my lure.

So, here’s what I did. I invited over a fisherman I know, dug up an old rod and Zebco reel from the garage, and went about the business of learning how to catch bass. And I subscribed to magazines, read and saved numerous articles online, and bookmarked a virtual library of videos until I had so much information about bass fishing that my head hurt.

And I caught bass. Only a few in the beginning, and mostly small ones. But soon I was hooked on finding and landing these aggressive, mysterious, and beautiful fish.

I fine-tuned my process and upgraded my gear, and things started clicking and I truly felt like a bass fisherman … albeit still in training.

So I invite you to come along on this journey. I’ve accumulated much of the content we’ll need, and I’m always on the search for more. I use Google for brainstorming and A.I. to create post outlines.

I have a knack for organizing complex things and making them less complex. That’s what I hope to do for you, and me. It’ll be fun, and we’ll get better together.

I hope you enjoy!
